An Opportunity of a Lifetime
Earlier this year I was asked to be filmed by Intrinsic Financial Services as part of their client information films. I was chosen as a good example of why taking out life insurance is so important for people with responsibilities of dependants, mortgages etc.
I won't lie - it wasn't the easiest thing I've ever done. I had to talk about what family and work life was like for us before Steve became ill as well as talking about our lives since November 2010. But this really was an important message to get across to the public.
In May I was invited to attend the Intrinsic annual conference in London to see my film for the first time on the 'big screen' (at this point I was wondering whether I should have asked for Charlize Theron to play me in the film). Gaby Logan presented the day's conference with Jason Manford providing comedy during the lunch break. All this plus we were promised a 'very special guest' speaker at the end of the day who I would get the opportunity to meet.
The day was interesting, not just to be in the company of some very senior business people but also to see a conference environment where many of the biggest financial companies were exhibiting. As a graphic design agency we have been asked to produce exhibition materials for clients so it was really interesting to actually see freebies being handed out by businesses in such an environment.
As the day progressed I heard all about previous special guest speakers - Sir Chris Hoy and Sir Matt Pinsent being just two previous guests so my interest was piqued to say the least. My film was shown and I was pretty overwhelmed by the touching comments I received from those I spoke to afterwards.
Then it was time for the special guest. Many archive sporting photos and film clips were shown on the big screen but one person kept reappearing in the film montage. So here's the proof that, together with my financial advisor, I met one of my all-time sporting heroes.
